Tried it out a fortnight ago 2nd Oct to be precise, on insistence of a friend since they were renovating the restaurant. Decided to try out a soup & starter since no drinks were being served; ended up with practically a complete meal. The Dim Sum were great, particularly the steamed ones ~ both vegetarian & chicken. The soup, just the right quantity & extremely piping hot, the way I prefer. The fried chicken rice was great, not oily at all….The dessert pretty good. Service awesome…They delayed the sauce for dim sum; when pointed out, the half eaten plate of dim sum were whisked away & replaced with fresh sauces(Am sure lot of other restaurants do it but this was done by the waiter~~ great initiative & trust) Am waiting to revisit it again with family!

A newly opened take away place. In the truely Kolkatta style, with open kitchen where the rolls are prepared in front of you. (The other dishes are made somewhere else & delivered according to their claim) Tried out their Chicken & Egg Rolls a couple of times. Definitely good value, though the Kolkatta taste seemed to be tempered to meet bombay palatte (less mustard & spice). The prices are pretty reasonable. Good for the bong connection in & around lokhandwala! BEWARE ~ HOME DELIVERY NEEDS TO BE 2 Hours even for Rolls. Tried them out 2 times on this also

A small dingy cart just before the gurudwara, in business since nearly 1999. Typical Calcutta rolls including the smell, taste & price. Value for money stuff. You will find it populated by college crowd or even service people getting down at the bus stop, picking up a couple of rolls on their way home. Some of the old timers continue parking their cars & having a roll, before the drive off. Closes by 10 pm. On & off good delivery service most of the time. Consistency in taste has been maintained. Has been featured by midday etc.:) Definitely worth a dekho!

Kalinga Veg Restaurant

Posted in Restaurant; Hotels; Food |

Updated Review 6th May 2010

A regular shetty restaurant that has been in existence at least for the past 8-10 years in the lane before Fame Cinemas on the New Link Road.

We had visited it once years ago when it had opened but found it pathetic, with typical sweet sambhar, runny chatni, orange pav bhaji.

Today, had to pick up N and after the gym wanted a bite. She recommended it highly, having been there a couple of times with friends.

So off we went, 4 of us and ordered some variety of Chaat (samosa bhel bhel) South Indian (idli vada mysore sada) and a pav bhaji.

South Indian was very good especially the chatni and sambhai, though the vada is better at Shabari.

Pav Bhaji was reasonably OK, but the samosa bhel was super, as good as RadhaKrishna on S. V. Road.

All in all good and worth a second try.

A typical Veg restaurant. You want it we have it ~ South Indian, Punjabi, Chinese, Chats, Pav Bhaji, Pizzas, Juices & all that. The quality has improved over the last one year & worth a visit, though it is a tossup between them & Shabari which is in the next lane. Caters to the kitty party crowd quite successfully.

Been there since ages. Ashok opens it early morning & is open till late evening. The vada’s are large with appropriate pav size, always served sizzling hot with his unique chura, making the stuffing extremely large & well worth the price of 8/- Always has the extra chutneys & mirchi~~ to help you; and there is the lovely adrak tea next door. A place worth visiting on a saturday afternoon, particularly if you are driving back from town! Or once in a way make a special visit.

Looks like some changes at the place? A new printed menu, a steward to take your orders outside, so on & so forth. Tried out the bakery stuff yesterday night….Same taste, quality & quantity….though my daughter says..higher prices!

Tried it out for guests over from Gujarat. The butter chicken & hariyali chicken was just right, with definitely different, color & taste to both. The rotis were delivered hot & biryani was also pretty good. Definitely on my list of using it more often.
