I am sure, Gandhiji must be smiling his gentle smile up in the heavens.
Just imagine the kind of difference he made for Capitalists during Recession.
Orkut, Chirkut, Facebook, all the social media gurus, bloggers (including yours truly) climbed on the band wagon to write about him - thereby leading to free content, advertisements, subscriptions & what have you.
Debates, calls made money for the phone companies.
Media had a field day for a while when there were no news around….so some jobs were saved for a couple of months.
Principles, Values were/are being heavily debated, so probably some more jobs would be saved since some employers would want to be considered gandhian.
AND just like the reality shows…..post acquisition of the items by Mr. Mallaya….who did not/does not claim to be gandhian follower, so on & forth (enough has been written about him already) there are a lot of text messages floating around….
Sushmay, Dilip, Ashwin, Suresh, Ian, Manny, Vijay, Deepak, Anil, Mohan & many others have been contributing to the coffers of Airtel, Vodafone, BPL, etc.
Gandhi hated liquor his whole life, but liquor king brought his memories back to India. What a contribution from people who drink alcohol. Three cheers
Gandhiji advocated Prohibition, But we needed a liquor baron to bring back his things to India! JAI HO for the craziest place on earth!! 02 Oct NOW KINGFISHER DAY
Dr. Vijay Mallya should now lead a “Malt March to Sabarmati Ashram to lift prohibition in Gujarat. JAI HO!
Gandhiji hated liquor for whole life. But liquor king brought gandhi memories back to India. What a contribution of our people who drink. Thanks for drinking…..Sar uthake peeo.
After Mallaya’s heroic rescue of India’s honor, 2nd October will no longer be a dry day…..:)
Besides the coffers filling in, it was interesting to see the creativity, communication skills employed & at least this year he shall be remembered for more days!!!
Also how does it matter what business Mr. Mallaya is???? Personally I did not hear/see any of the so call principled, gandhian hypocrites trying anything remotely…..maybe I am not privy to such things; maybe they sponsored Mallaya….one does not know.
But this one conveys my thoughts clearly
Indians want Gandhiji’s valuables, But not his VALUES
And Bapu has the last laugh:) after all NALAYAK BETA HI KAAM AATA HAI..!

It is amusing. Since Mallaya has procured Bapuji’s belongings. There are several debates and many editorials too. All questioning Mallaya’s bonafides to bring Bapuji’s belongings. I have only one question do all those who question Mallaya’s bonafides or ridicule the fact that a liquor barron has bought Bapuji’s belongings practice Bapu’s way of life 100%. Do those who write his biographies become celebate, vegetarian teetotelers? Can only those who wear khadi, are vegetarian, practice celebacy and abstain from imbibing liquor understand Gandhi? Do those who make films on him, write his biographies, write about his philosophy and belief become vegetarian, teetotaler Brahmacharis? Have all those who criticise that we bought Bapu’s belongings for 1.8 million $US and also decalre that we purchase his belongings but don’t practice his philisopies, given up their possesions and embraced poverty before attempting to discuss Bapu?
Arn’t these very pedantic arguments.
March 9th, 2009 at 3:27 am@ Tushar - You got it in right my friend. How does it matter, what ideology, philosophy, religion you follow. When it is destined that you shall help me, it is bound to be so! And that is the way it should be. This is the same problem….Before constantly criticizing the government….have you voted? Keep the Passion Burning!!!
March 9th, 2009 at 7:15 am“Jai Ho”
March 9th, 2009 at 7:18 amWhat, is it so necessary to bring the valuables to India?? They should be kept by the person who respects them most. A Van Gogh painting would be kept by an admirer rather than his patriotic countrymen!!
March 15th, 2009 at 8:02 am“Sar uthake peeo.” - Indeed
March 16th, 2009 at 12:13 pmLovely,
Totally Agreed,
People choose easier of two things –> Following Values, and wanting those articles back.
March 17th, 2009 at 7:05 amObviously following Values is so damn tough, so lie to your own soul by Jumping about articles coming back to India.:).Feel good about being a Gandhian, show your new-found Gandhian respect to your neighbors and everyone in facebook too, and then forget it the next day :)!
Agree with Mr.Tushar completely.
March 18th, 2009 at 3:37 amIts about how much respect one has for the Man(Gandhiji) and how far One(Mallaya) can go to get country’s glory in terms of Gandhiji’s valuables.
In todays world a True Gandhian would not have been able to buy it from OTIS auction. only a man with means, moral and mission could do it and he did it. If he is a Liquor baron it does not mean He is a bad guy. He is simply earning from what you are paying to go the alcoholic way!!
