Chicken Chaap

This was a place that I wanted to visit, to relive the Calcutta memories, but Khar was too far and then in a “mountain comes to Mohammed manner” they opened close to my house.

Plans were immediately hatched & circumstances intervened so fell by the wayside. Yashesh a friend who loves food & is half Bong, made the visit & came back fuming the first time, but after a couple of weeks said they had settled down.

Off we went on a Saturday afternoon at 1 pm. The restaurant was empty, my heart sank, but we braved on. Leaving the ordering to Yashesh we relaxed. In about 10 minutes the food was on the table.

Chicken chaap – excellent, oily, but drained out on request – just like the Daag, thoda oil kabhi accha hai; Mutton Bara Kabab – very nice, after a long time I must have cleaned off the entire piece. This was followed by of course the Biryani – chicken with extra aloo & dim – this was just right, the grains nice and long, masala wrapped around 70% of the rice, when you mix it properly with hand, gives you the fragrance of rice and masala without any oil that stick on your hands. Aha! Calcutta.

We needed a coke to feel satiated and that we did, promising to return again soon to try out the balance menu.

After a couple of days, the opportunity arose to call for Rolls – Chicken & Egg – perfect the way they should be, but the onions fried, Calcutta style was missing, but no oil and that was more relevant.
