An extremely friendly, well located restaurant for the past decade or so. Troublesome to get a table most of the days post 1 pm & 8pm though once in it is worth it. Quite spacious, laid out tables that allow quite a bit of privacy. The menu is exhaustive & portions enough for 2 people. Family dominated in the evenings & kitty in the afternoon. The innovative special veg & non veg dishes are well worth a try most of the time. The service is exceptional most of the times. Definitely worth a visit….Consistency at its best.

A Landmark of sorts in Lokhandwala Market. Covering South Indian, Fast Food of all Sorts, Punjabi Cuisine, Chinese Cuisine, Beverages ( Fresh Fruit Juice and Milk Shakes ), Ice Creams and Kulfi (Pista is Yum). Personally , i enjoy their Hot Dog, Pav Bhaji , and Dahi Batata Puri. Have seen it constantly reinvent itself to meet the needs. The hot dog fight against subway, the pizza fight against Dominos & gang, ensure that its loyal clientèles returns!

Same family as Green House of Vile Parle East. Good place to relax over a couple of chilled beers. Good quantity in starters, main course pretty consistent. Known more for the regulars in spite of it being on the main road. Attentive staff willing to provide that extra bit of service. Definitely worth a visit to make it regular:)

An veg extension of Radhakrishna (same owners now) but serves liquor. The food that was good once upon a time, has started acquiring a typical shetty taste, with the gravies looking the same. The service is Ok, with most of the waiters standing in clusters and need to be called. Worth a avoid unless critical.

The ground floor is undergoing renovation, last time we visited which was a couple of months back. The basement is a tad crowded, particularly with regulars & the ceiling a little low. Some of the vegetarian food is good & the accompaniments with drinks may be one of the reason. Have never had an occasion to try out the non veg.

Ask for Surti, the old manager who will ensure excellent service as well as great off the menu recommendation, BUT beware the next time if he is not around you may not get the same. Very good veg & non veg starters to begin with, followed by main course, that needs to be rounded off with either ras malai or gulab jamun & kulfi. Do not be surprised if you see Paresh Rawal & a couple of theatre guys occupying the next table. Definitely worth a visit. But now with their new one opening at Malad, I prefer to go there.

Strictly a quarter joint with fantastic punjju food. Does extremely well in home delivery with excellent tandoori chicken & dal. Is likely to be full most of the evenings with some chairs & tables outside also, with some filmi & tv support staff having their daily quota.

One of the oldest serving punjabi, chinese food. Its location & consistent food has ensured its popularity. Most of the regular dishes are available, however the seating is a bit claustrophobic with everyone hearing everyone. Last time a couple of months ago, it had started looking tacky, but we were assured that the furnishings were being renovated. Good to try out.

Tried it out a fortnight ago 2nd Oct to be precise, on insistence of a friend since they were renovating the restaurant. Decided to try out a soup & starter since no drinks were being served; ended up with practically a complete meal. The Dim Sum were great, particularly the steamed ones ~ both vegetarian & chicken. The soup, just the right quantity & extremely piping hot, the way I prefer. The fried chicken rice was great, not oily at all….The dessert pretty good. Service awesome…They delayed the sauce for dim sum; when pointed out, the half eaten plate of dim sum were whisked away & replaced with fresh sauces(Am sure lot of other restaurants do it but this was done by the waiter~~ great initiative & trust) Am waiting to revisit it again with family!

Kalinga Veg Restaurant

Posted in Restaurant; Hotels; Food |

Updated Review 6th May 2010

A regular shetty restaurant that has been in existence at least for the past 8-10 years in the lane before Fame Cinemas on the New Link Road.

We had visited it once years ago when it had opened but found it pathetic, with typical sweet sambhar, runny chatni, orange pav bhaji.

Today, had to pick up N and after the gym wanted a bite. She recommended it highly, having been there a couple of times with friends.

So off we went, 4 of us and ordered some variety of Chaat (samosa bhel bhel) South Indian (idli vada mysore sada) and a pav bhaji.

South Indian was very good especially the chatni and sambhai, though the vada is better at Shabari.

Pav Bhaji was reasonably OK, but the samosa bhel was super, as good as RadhaKrishna on S. V. Road.

All in all good and worth a second try.

A typical Veg restaurant. You want it we have it ~ South Indian, Punjabi, Chinese, Chats, Pav Bhaji, Pizzas, Juices & all that. The quality has improved over the last one year & worth a visit, though it is a tossup between them & Shabari which is in the next lane. Caters to the kitty party crowd quite successfully.
