mr d, this is such a wonderful initiative. you are a great idea starter and i am sure many more will be inspired to stop hoarding and start giving away. please do post the pictures of some of the stuff you give away with little stories on how the meetings went.
I move every two years and govt provides me a garage also at every location. Before each move anything that has been in my garage and not used is given away with a heavy stone kept on that middle class habit that you mentioned above. 2008 it started with Steel utensils(Brand New) collected from marriages. 2010 was toys, matress and quilts(Ahmedabad not used). May 2012 was the clothes that were not worn by anyone in last one year, except the sarees which is still impossible to touch. This has kept my logistics and heart very simple. Now I don’t even buy a toy or a pair of shoes for my son till he decides to give away one that he owns. This has taught my children the habit of giving away things which were dearest once upon a time which is priceless for me.
