When I shifted to my new house more than 15 years ago, one of the main reasons was open space all around, particularly the front where the erstwhile Kamats Club used to be.

Then came the rumours of financial problems, irregularity of memberships, BMC land etc and it shut down.

For a long time it remained shut, with rumours doing the rounds that BMC is planning a play ground / park etc. There was joy around, everyone congratulated us, but cynical me was unconvinced.

And right enough, one fine morning – Runwal Elegante from Runwal builders put up a hoarding did some puja and began digging. A ‘Premium’ 30 storey tower with parking till 5 th floor including all amenities is coming up.

During all this period the road went from a width of 20 ft to more than 160 ft, signals planned – all good.

But what has not changed is the bridge where “School Buses” are parked “temporarily”. During the nights eunuchs run their business. Complaint, they get move away – mind you they are more decent than some people I know – but the buses don’t move.

One is left to wonder how the “Premium” towers will address this menace? Or Yeh hai Bombay Meri Jaan?
