I had Jury duty for Retail awards a couple of weeks back in Andheri East, which finished earlier than expected, leaving me foot loose for a couple of hours, before a thursday night date with my wife.

Whilst Twitter came to rescue with suggestions, wife called up and said let’s try Courtyard by Marriott before her membership expires.

I landed up there, decided to wait, was guided to the Momo cafe; whiled away some time with a fresh lime soda and clearing off emails. Prompt, attentive service.

Wife reached and perused the menu, and the captain said, there are live stations and the menu is nice for the buffet including chaat station. Boom! decision taken by her.

There was the usual salads – nice but regular; cheese platter – sorry looking; break basket – nice and fresh; soup – gave it a miss; chaat station – extremely good, with place to have pani puri standing there, the ragda pattice was good, sev puri & dahi puri also.

I tried out the Italian live counter – spaghetti in white sauce was made extremely well, just that brown look as I wanted; the thin crust veggie pizza was excellent, I could have gone for seconds on the non veg stuff.

We were finally ready for the Indian stuff, checked out fish orly in starters – limp soggy and reheated stuff. Asked the person manning the counter, what fish was it and why was it so soggy. He said Basa. Trying the other stuff, the unanimous response was Basa and then could not answer why no other fish was being used.

But the indian food was pretty good, the dal especially with hot rotis. What won me over was, the person to whom I had enquired came over with fresh fish orly and said, that sir, I can’t change the fish, but please try this and let me know if it is fine.

One Sardarji who seemed to be the buffet chef in command, also stopped by and accepted that Basa was used mostly, but was a bit abashed when I asked him, if he would serve other fish if ordered Ala carte.

We finished it off with the desserts – pretty nice, but the best was the ice cream combo created for my wife with some crazy amount of dry fruits.
