Oyo Rooms – the economy, premium and all around offering has been used by me in the past.

A seminar in Ahmedabad, early morning flight and the offer of an early check in took me the app and booked it; so I could wear casual, reach, relax, do the 3S and reach.

Being conversant with Ahmedabad, booked a newish but economy property. Landed, reached and tried to check in.

The first problem: They wanted me to register with my thumb print, with the excuse that the Local police insisted on it, with all bookings via Oyo. I refused, asked to speak to the manager or call the local police station. I was allowed to occupy the room.

The second problem: Oyo has not given the facilities – soap, shampoo etc so we will give whatever is available, though they managed to get oyo branded after a tip.

The third problem: Lying down for a power nap, a knock on the door and the receptionist comes with an offer. “I will show you as not checked in, you cancell the booking and get refund of ₹1500 and give me cash 500/- I thanked him and closed the door.

Checkout was in 4 hours and it made the receptionist very happy, was already offering the room to another oyo customer with a deal.

Did lodge a complaint, somebody called up, said would take corrective action etc. The property is still listed. So whatever.

UPDATE: After this blog post, Oyo reached out and delisted the property and sent a mail, text.
